So Long and Thanks For All The Fish

As most on Waternish will know, this weekend sees the closure of a local institution which will be missed by many people not only locally but, it's not an exaggeration to say, worldwide. As the only Michelin-starred establishment on the Isle of Skye, it has built a global reputation among gourmets and travellers for its cuisine, which has traditionally showcased exceptionally fresh local seafood. It earned its Michelin star just 18 months after opening in 2016, and has held on to it continuously throughout its existence.

Michael and Laurence have stated that they will remain in Stein, despite the closure of the restaurant, for which my wife and I are grateful: as closest neighbours, we would be very sorry to see them leave. I'm sure many on Waternish also remember their community-mindedness when Michael served his delicious food literally via 'The Bay Window' directly from his kitchen during the days of COVID, which was always a weekly treat to look forward to at that dark time.

Michael and Laurence would be the first to agree that credit for the success of the restaurant should be shared with the three staff who have been with them throughout, namely Graeme, Issy and Bren. To the whole team, from me personally and on behalf of our subscribers on Waternish and beyond, it has been a privilege knowing you for the past 10 years, and we wish you all happiness and success in the next chapter of your lives.
