This year has been a real challenge for the bees. They built up strongly in the spring. However, the weather during May and June meant that there were thousands of mouths to feed, but no opportunities to get out and collect nectar. Several colonies across Skye died through starvation as a result; I was feeding sugar syrup towards the end of June!
Thankfully the bees survived and thrived in the much improved weather that we had in July and August. The honey is similar to previous years in that it is heavily influenced by the bell heather in terms of colour and flavour.
There is some honey for sale in the honey cupboard down the Carnach road.
At the moment there is clear honey 5oz for £5, 8oz for £7, 12oz for £10 and 16oz for £12. Cash only.
