Managing Mink Meeting
Mink Management Meeting – All Welcome.
I am in the early days of scoping, information gathering, and discussion to inform and develop a mink management and eradication proposal for Waternish. Initially our primary concern was to tackle the devastation occurring in the seabird populations of the local island breeding colonies, where mink run freely in daylight, wreaking havoc. The islands are not an isolated population and because mink are intelligent, mobile and adaptive; tackling the issues on the islands, without addressing those onshore that affect our domestic bird populations, would be much less successful. We need to adopt a more coordinated approach; one guided by those with experience.
Having had positive and supportive conversations with those responsible for successful eradication in the Outer Hebrides, it is heartening to know that the government agencies are taking this issue very seriously, recognise the scale of the problem and are
developing initiatives and budgets. Strategically, Skye is in their focus, and conversations to date have been very supportive.
To progress further we need to gather information on the locations of our kept birds, historical kills etc.
I would therefore like to invite everyone who is interested, with domestic birds or not, to a meeting in Waterish Hall on Tuesday 29th September between 7pm – 8pm. I will share with you the information I have discovered to date and bring some simple forms to
collect information.
I must emphasise that discussions are at a very early stage. Any action taken needs to be comprehensive, and professional advice and assistance is being sought.
I hope to see many of you there next week. If you cannot make the meeting, please get in touch and I can pop a form to you.

DCF Community Cafe Holiday Dates
Notification of annual leave closure dates:
Hi guys, first we want to say a massive THANKYOU to all who contributed to and supported the wee fundraiser events that we did for Nepal. Your contributions helped us to raise over £2400 in total; some of which will go specifically to buying school supplies from the sponcered walk and the rest will go directly to our contacts in Nepal to help with feeding, medical care and other needs on the ground in Nepal.
We are blown away by everyone's kindness and support for this cause and are looking forward to sharing updates with any interested parties on our return in October.
So, with that being said, we will be leaving here to travel to Nepal NEXT WEEK! Here are our closure dates for DCF Community Cafe.
We will be OPEN Monday 21st Sep for our last trading day but please note that we will be closing at the earlier time of 3pm on the 21st to start our journey!

Waternish Honey For Sale
This year has been a real challenge for the bees. They built up strongly in the spring. However, the weather during May and June meant that there were thousands of mouths to feed, but no opportunities to get out and collect nectar. Several colonies across Skye died through starvation as a result; I was feeding sugar syrup towards the end of June!
Thankfully the bees survived and thrived in the much improved weather that we had in July and August. The honey is similar to previous years in that it is heavily influenced by the bell heather in terms of colour and flavour.
There is some honey for sale in the honey cupboard down the Carnach road.
At the moment there is clear honey 5oz for £5, 8oz for £7, 12oz for £10 and 16oz for £12. Cash only.

SEAL Festival of Small Halls 2026
The lineup for the SEALL Festival of Small Halls 2026 has been confirmed. It includes the eight artists as shown in the poster above. They'll be touring about Skye, Raasay and Lochalsh this November, coming to a hall near you.
The festival is a completely unique musical experience. The artists are starting the process of sharing music and ideas to prepare for what is an entirely one-off set of performances.
All eight will play the opening and closing of the festival at Dunvegan Community Hall and Sligachan Hotel respectively. For the rest of the run, they'll be split into two groups of four. They'll also be doing workshops, playing informal sessions and performing in care homes throughout the run.

This Saturday! **Coffee, cakes, board games and Bingo Fundraiser!**
There is an after hours Cafe opening event coming up on Sat 5th Sep 4.30-6.30pm @DCF Community Cafe, Dunvegan.
All of the usual Barista drinks will be available with home baking, board games and Bingo too! (All activities are non compulsory!) Come along for some fun or just for coffee and a chat!
We will be taking cash donations for this event which will go directly towards projects happening on the ground in Nepal including feeding and medical care.

Starting This Weekend! Feldenkrais Classes
With this unique opportunity of a series of six sessions Uwe will explore movement which will provide you with tools and insights to develop a deeper awareness of your body and allow for improved posture, reduced pain and give you enhanced well being to move through life more easily. All classes are suitable for any level of fitness or movement.
Caroline Dear - 'I found Feldenkrais has really helped me with severe sacro-iliac pain and I have become more aware of my movementsand body since doing these classes regularly online'.
Helen Scott-Danter - 'Through Feldenkrais I feel connections throughout my body and have found an ease of moving and being which connects with my shiatsu massage practice'.
You will need comfortable clothing and a yoga mat. Classes areadaptable but most are conducted lying on the floor. The movements are slow and gentle to increase your own awareness of your body.
