Rewilding the Sea

REWILDING THE SEA - what do you think?

Following on very nicely from the insights gained in our coastal memories and indigenous local knowledge event, this event is an excellent opportunity to explore and discover what marine rewilding means for coastal communities.

Are you curious about marine rewilding and what it means for coastal communities?

Then please come along to this short public event at:

Waternish Hall on
Thurs 23rd July between 7pm-9pm, or Friday 24th July from 10am-12pm

* Hear an overview of recent research exploring how marine rewilding is defined.
* Participate in research quizzes that will help to better understand what is important to you in your local coast and sea.
* Discuss your ideas and opinions around the topic.
* Accessible to all, including children activities.
* Enjoy a hot drink and tasty treats.

This event is a collaboration between Esther Brooker, Divers Eye Boat Trips, and Waternish Wildlife Alliance.

Esther Brooker is based in Scotland and is a part-time PhD Researcher at the University of Hull. She has a background in marine Biology and has worked for the last 15 years in Scottish Marine Science and Conservation Policy.

Fitness Class at Waternish Hall
Fitness.png
Hi everyone,

My name is Jake, and I’m a fitness instructor focused on helping people stay active in a way that feels manageable, enjoyable, and sustainable.

I host a new Monday morning Circuits class in Waternish, and I’d love to welcome anyone who’s looking to move a bit more, build confidence, or get back into a routine.

These sessions are designed to be friendly, relaxed, and suitable for all abilities, with a focus on improving strength, balance, mobility, and overall fitness — without it feeling intimidating or overly intense.
Class Details:

Mondays
10:00am (45 minutes)
£8 per class

All exercises will have easier and more challenging options, so whether you’re just getting started or already fairly active, you can work at a level that suits you.

The aim is simple: keep moving, feel better, and build confidence week by week.

If you’re interested you can register an interest with me on my phone number or email below, otherwise just come along!

It would be great to see you there.

Charity Line Dance @ Waternish Hall.
linedance.png
There are still a few spaces left for the charity line dance at Waternish Hall next Thurs 16th July if there is anyone else who would like to come. If you would like to join this fun activity and help to raise money for local projects happening in Nepal, then please do let me know on nikkikarp32@gmail.com  and join us this coming week!

To the 17 folk who have already booked a space, I look forward to seeing you at the hall on Thursday at 11am. Please wear comfortable footwear and bring water and a cash donation for the cost of the class.

Mo usually charges £5 for a class so that would be the recommended donation but whatever you feel led to give will be gratefully received and it is all going to good cause.

With huge thanks to Mo who is instructing the class without a fee and to the Waternish Hall who have kindly provided the facility for us free of charge! Thank-you 🥰
Looking forward to seeing you there.
Nikki.

Thank You from Chloe
Thankyou.jpg
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION AND HOSPITALITY

Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent marine memories and heritage event and personal interviews. We were absolutely delighted with the engagement and especially grateful to all who took the time to share their valuable insights into the past. So many valuable pieces of information were shared that help us to build a picture of our evolving marine environment, the changes in habitats and species past and present; as well as how we interact with it and depend on it as a community. We had so many inspired and fabulous conversations with people in the community, memories and experiences shared, walks, swims and site visits.

Chloe, the masters student leading this particular piece of work, is now writing her dissertation and building a multi layered digital map online.

The insights it reveals will be used locally to inform any decision we make about the ongoing management of our local marine environment.

Thank you once again, your participation was invaluable and very much appreciated.

For anyone who was unable to participate in personal interviews you can take part in the online survey at this link here.

Job Vacancies – Personal Assistants (PAs) – Gillen
images.jpg
Please read this and give it your consideration

A lady in Waternish is looking to add to her existing team of PAs. As a team member you would not be expected to be available every week, and you can do as little as one session (normally an hour) or more to suit.

Self Employed pay is £21.50 per hour.

The hours are normally 08:00 until 09:00 and 17:00 until 18:00 with the team providing cover every day between them. The position is very flexible with team members covering for each other.

So, even if you can offer just one session each week we’d like to hear from you.

For more information, please contact Catherine Leach on 01470 592 705 or mobile 07581 171 315 or email catherineleach60@gmail.com.
