What a Grand Night at the Hall
An excellent crowd of around 40 people attended the pop-up bar and buffet supper in the Hall on midsummer’s eve last Friday. It is always a pleasure to see the building alive with locals of all ages chatting and laughing and having a jolly good time.

A number of thank-you’s are in order. Firstly to our team of helpers for getting the whole show on the road and doing all the heavy lifting, both before and after the event. Also to Cathy and Maggie for their work with me to ensure that everyone was well fed, not to mention the mountain of washing up! The wonderful spread of delicious dishes which catered to all dietary needs wouldn't have been possible without the generous cookery skills of several local ladies - much appreciated. Thanks to Jeff for lending his table football, which provided loads of entertainment, as did the dartboard and various table games.

Finally what social event in the Hall would be successful without the inevitable raffle?! Thanks to everyone who donated prizes and, of course, to you all who purchased some tickets.

From the feedback we've received, it sounds as if we hit on the right kind of atmosphere. Thank you all who came along, and please make sure that you watch the newsletter for future events.

Waternish Hall - Cleaner Required
Waternish Community Hall is seeking a new cleaner for the Hall, as our long-serving Clive has sadly decided to retire.

The Hall is in regular use during the daytime, with occasional evening events, and the cleaner would be required to give it a weekly clean to include toilets, main hall and kitchen.

The post will be on a self-employed basis and all cleaning materials and equipment will be provided. Remuneration by agreement. We are seeking someone who could start as soon as possible.

For further information and a tour of the Hall if you are not familiar with it, please contact: me using the details below.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Strategic Service Review
The following survey has been forwaded to the Community Council as The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are consulting on future changes to their service throughout Scotland.  We would urge as many residents to complete the survey to let your views be know.

Here's the details.  The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has launched an online survey as they consider future changes to our emergency service.

There are issues that the service must address with the ageing estate while ensuring that they are best placed to meet the changing community risk across Scotland.

The survey, titled Shaping Our Future Service: Your Say, is open until 30 June 2024 and marks the first stage in engagement with communities, staff, representative bodies, partners and elected members.

The Fire Service want to be a modern fire and rescue service that is ready for the challenges of Scotland’s future.

The Service want to do more for our communities, not just by responding to incidents but by stopping them from happening. To make sure they have the right resources in the right place at the right time they need to change.
The Service want to hear your views on what you want from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers
Scottish Charity No:027909

Saturday 22 June

Misty Isle Boat Trips invite you to join this year's fund raising cruise. Food will be served in the village hall following the cruise, so we are not weather dependent.

The Misty Isle will leave Elgol jetty at 7pm (please check in at the white kiosk by 6.45pm) for a sail. You will see the seals in Loch na Cuilce and whatever wildlife decides to show up, often dolphins or a basking shark. Meanwhile, the cooks will be preparing curries and cooking sausages ready for your return (including vegetarian).

There will be live musical entertainment and a raffle (donations for this are always welcome) and every child will win a prize.

Tickets are £25 for adults and £15 for children (under 16) and ALL money goes to Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers. This is an ideal outing for all the family.

If it is too windy or wet for the cruise this can be taken whenever you choose but the rest of the evening will go ahead.

Booking is essential so please ring Misty Isle Boat Trips on 01471 866288.

The 1970 Gallery
Hello! Just to let everyone know that we have opened a small gallery at Hazelbank, 16 Lochbay. It will be open Mon – Fri between 11am and 3pm, as currently fitting it around my other business. If anyone wants to visit outside of these hours, then please drop me a What’s App message on 07920 026465 and we can arrange a time with you.

We will be selling original artwork, prints, books, stationery, greetings cards, ceramics, contemporary craft, jewellery, candles, diffusers, jigsaws, wool throws and cushions, etc.

The website is up and running, and we will be offering “click and collect/local pick-up” for anyone living/staying locally, as well as shipping across the UK. If anyone from outside the UK wants to buy anything on-line, they can email us, and we can work out the cost of shipping.

The aim is in the next few weeks to get everything that we have in the gallery onto the web shop, so you’ll see the full range of what we have, it’s just taking a bit of time to get there!

Thank you to everyone that has supported and helped us get this off the ground, and in particular Kayti and Luke from Skió Pottery, and our wonderful neighbour Gill Adams.

We look forward to seeing you.
